Aurora’s Writing Links

Here are some great websites for grammar exercises and grammar/usage review:

  1. http://owl.english.purdue.edu/

Purdue’s site is organized by categories.  If your teachers tell you that you have consistent problems with verb tenses, you can review verb tenses here and do exercises to help you correct your errors.

2.  http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/

Grammar Girl’s podcasts are entertaining!  This is a fun way to review grammar!

3.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/skillswise/words/grammar/

This is a BBC website, so some of the words are in British spelling! The games here are quite fun and there are also quizzes and the review pages are very clear and concise.

The 2009 winners of Newsweek’s My Turn Essay Contest

These essays are great examples for writers who want to learn about using effective detail.  They’re also very well-organized.
